The Human Journey
Navigating illness, grief and loss

next series TBA
Alta Bates Comprehensive Cancer Center, Berkeley

Facilitated by Maura Singer, MA
Pre-registration through the Cancer Center required (see below)

In this 6-week series, participants will learn a process based on "The Hero's Journey" for navigating illness, grief and loss. The series, modeled on Buddhist teacher, Pam Weiss' work, provides a template for understanding our life through the lens of our common humanity. Illness, loss and grief are an integral part of being human, not experiences to be overcome or rejected. Through creative expression in writing and journeying we will explore the archetypal human journey of impermanence, illness, and healing.
We will:
—Introduce a model based in Joseph Campbell's work for mapping the archetypal journey of illness, grief, loss and healing.
—Practice meditation, self-compassion, qigong, and relaxation techniques.
—Explore our innate healing ability through writing and guided visualization.
—Create a template for mapping our individual journey through illness, loss, grief.
